What was it about inventors in the 20th century that made some of their inventions so weird? Take just about anything you can think of, and someone probably invented a really weird version of it at some point in the 20th century. There have been tons of weird inventions in the past, but they even managed to make something like beauty products look weird and terrifying.

Today, women curl their hair by putting it up into plastic spools or using a curling iron. Back then, they wound their hair up into a mess of thick, heated wires. They also wore all manner of strange and terrifying masks in an attempt to perfect their skin. Today, women simply need some cream or, in the worst case, a face mask cream and some cucumbers.

On the other hand, a few of these look awesome – who hasn’t had the sort of morning where they’d kill for a Hangover Heaven mask fresh out of the freezer?

  1. This is just to compare the present steps taken by US government as compared to the 1930’s steps in solving the economic turmoils.

  2. I cannot seem to find exactly what I’m looking for on the web. I’m looking for a list of the MOST influential technologies and inventions from the 1930’s including information on them. It’s for a project for school. Somebody please help?

  3. These are questions for an elementary student’s life.

How was life for a student different in 1960 than 1930?
How were they punished for misbehavior, eg. ruler to the knuckles, spanking?
How would they speak the the teachers? Respectively or sassy and back talking like today?
    What was education like?

  4. I recently bought a Ronson Princess lighter off the internet. The seller said it was from the 1930’s and I have no reason to disbelieve her. Since I bought it off the internet, it was shipped to me without fluid or a flint. My question is: would I have a hard time finding a flint for it, or do most lighters use a fairly standard size?

  5. I am doing a Powerpoint on migrant workers in the 1930’s, but I am having a hard time any information about the role they play as people in the economy.

  7. I’m doing a project for my English class- a book report- and I have to make and write a few journal entries from a character that is from the 1920’s/1930’s.
I was wondering what a journal from that time period look like? Thank you!

  8. I’m doing a research paper in history class and still do not full understand the effects politically, etc. of the Brazilian Revolution. I need to answer the question above (How did the Brazilian Revolution of 1930 change the society of Brazil?)

If anyone could please give me some help as soon as possible (before Friday) that would be so great.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

  9. What major things where happening in australia during the 1930’s and 40’s?

  10. Prior to 1930, most German Jews planned to remain in Germany. What factors contributed to their behavior? What were the different possible responses available to Jews at the time? Is there any correlation between changes in nazi policy and changes in jewish attitudes? Is there any similar correlation in the response of those outside germany?

  11. Alright, in the 1930’s what was life like for the families who lived in a coal-mining town (such as in Tennessee region)? What was the clothing style, common foods they ate, hobbies, average family size, common illnesses that may or may not be treatable?

I need a website or some other reference material to answer such questions. If they’re books, include a title and author please.

  12. An article usually has an image. How do I write a paragraph about it? Or in other words how do I analyse visual texts?

  13. Say I draw a fanart of a video game, and put the picture up on Deviantart or any website that allows pictures, do I give credit to whoever owns the pictures/the video game company? The same if it’s fanart for anything else that’s not 100% by me?
Example: I draw Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed. In the descriptions should I put something like: Art is © to me. Assassin’s Creed is © to Ubisoft Montreal ?
I don’t plan on selling the art, but I just don’t want people thinking I’m claiming AC as my own which I’m not.

  14. Many Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, will say that an image of Jesus does not violate the 2nd Commandment’s prohibition against “Graven images” (aka idols) because those images only serve as a reminder of Jesus.

Why is it then that members of non-Christian religions are not given the same credit? Pagans do not “worship” religious art, but rather use it as a reminder of the God or Goddess that art depicts.

    Why the double standard?
I never said that Jews and Muslims were the ones that were apparantly operating under a double standard. I worded my question in a very specific way so it would be ABSOLUTELY clear what I am asking about, which is the apparent double standard that SOME Christians seem to use

  15. If I sell digital copies of my photographs on my website, can I insist that if the customer uses the image on the internet that they add a credit to me (eg.”credit to Simon J Brady”) or will they be able to use the image however they like as they have purchased it?

    http://www.simonjbrady.com

  16. I’m currently looking for stock photo websites that allow visitors/members to download images for use in blog posts providing they offer a caption or credit under the image to give credit where credit is due. I have found a few doing search but am hoping others have some sites they use.

    Thanks in advance!

  17. Can you get a virus on google images when you’re on an android device? Because I clicked on an image of a credit card on accident like twice when I just wanted to see how many digits a credit card has. My antivirus says that my phone is fine but I’m still worried. Is my cell phone ok?

  18. If you were to get an image off some website online and altered to put into your work, or project, does this make the image yours, or do you think there are still copyright issues with doing this? What could you do to enforce stopping people from doing this?

  19. I’m writing a novel series.

There is this one artist online who has made really interesting images that really fits the series.

    Though…

Can I user her images if I give her credit?

Such as I put her name on the back cover (like many book covers have) or something like that?

  20. So Im doing a project that i created a site from gmail. I want to put a moving image as a background to wow my teacher cause to maybe get an extra credit or something.

  21. My publisher would probably be able to answer this question, but before I initiate an artist to work on my project, I’ll just ask here.

Okay, so I’m writting a book. For the cover, I am paying someone to draw an image. In what situation would I have to credit the artist?

  22. A client has sent me a link to an image he found on the web. It looks like an image taken from a shot of a computer screen, and is most likely not a copyright protected image. Still, it is hosted on someone else’s page and I’m reluctant to use it. Is there some way I can verify whether or not that this image is ok to use?

  25. I was trying to get icons for my website and found SyncFusion MetroStudio helpful. But now I need to show some graphics on my web page as banner / background etc. I downloaded some from fotogrph.com and seems promising. But my question is there any website from which I get Images for personal & commercial use without back linking them? I found which will give low resolution pics. But I need large resolution pics

  26. Im like stressing my self out because I want to join the airforce , so I am currently studying for the ASVAB test. But now i hear that you will also have to pass a credit check/background check. My credit isnt good but its not bad….I more concerned of the financial aid and dependents chapter 35 that i owe when i had withdrew from my classes…it dnt show on my credit report but im sure they will still find out…im trying my best to pay theses debts off but it will take some time….
So will this affect me enlisting in the AF? I’m planning on going for diagnostic imaging apprentice,
    Thank you
Well I am married with two kids and I have already talked with the recruiter and he told me that he can waiver the second child..

  27. I don’t have the frames for the image but I do have the animated image. Is there any way to put credit on the animated image without ruining the picture?

  28. The jpg is saved on my computer, all edited. But I need to convert it to the format for a forum banner; is there any online and free website (excluding mybannermaker!!!) that does not have annoying credit on the bottom but still puts it into a forum banner code? (Specifically, a forum banner for Howrse.)

  29. I’m currently looking for stock photo websites that allow visitors/members to download images for use in blog posts providing they offer a caption or credit under the image to give credit where credit is due. I have found a few doing search but am hoping others have some sites they use.

  35. I’m mid way through making my first IOS app and I understand I need to credit/reference the images that I used. How do I do this?

  36. Hi,
I am entering a creative teen contest and I was thinking of using uncopyrighted/free images specifically stated and found online as a background for a powerpoint. Would I still have full copyrights for the powerpoint I produce?
    Thanks.

And if not, do you have any websites in mind that I could visit?

  37. I am creating a board game that I plan to sell. The board game has cards that you pick up at certain times, and you do what is on each card. I have the images I want from google images, but is it legal to sell a game with these images on the cards if I state who the copyright belongs to? (eg: Image copyrighted to , )? If not, what do I have to do to make it legal?
Also, if I take an image and change it (eg: change the colour of a glass/cup from red to blue using colour filters) does this then make it a new image and would I have the copyright rights to it?
I have tried reading up on the copyright laws but it didn’t answer all of my questions. I am in New Zealand if this makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your help 🙂

  38. I am looking at some bespoke gifts for my business and am looking at images I can use.
There are many other people using images on e-bay etc and don’t really want to be accused of copyright breach.
One of my products contains a picture of one direction (band) and spongebob cartoon characters etc..

Is there anywhere I can use the images without breaching copyrights legally?

  39. Hi, I have a new assignment that requires me to layer 2 different images using a photo editing software, but I’m not exactly sure how to do it. I have photoshop elements, but can’t figure it out.

The only directions the assignment gave me was,
“What you do is choose 2 images and save them both in an image editor–like Paint Shop Pro. You probably already have some sort of image editor on your computer–any works fine. Play around with the composition, shade, etc. until you get the image you like.

Now it’s your turn. Choose any topics you like to layer. Submit your assignment to the dropbox for credit.

Any help wiould be greatly appreciated.

  42. Hey Guys,

My question is, how should you treat images that you find online that you would want to use in your own artwork (such as collages)?

If there is explicit copywriting, are you allowed to use the works non-commercially? What rights is the artist reserving?

What about when there is no information on copyright?

    Thanks for your help!

  44. I need information on 1930’s fashion and major bands in that time era.

  45. I can’t think of anything additional that they can get from the image since I’ve already sent them my credit card number, verification code, etc., and they’ve already shipped the order, but maybe I’m missing something? It seems like a strange request, but perhaps they’re using an outdated credit processing service.
The retailer says they don’t need the image after all, the message was the result of an internal miscommunication. Thanks for the answers!

  50. My aunt was recently doing some renovations in her home, which is quite old. When they ripped out part of the one wall by the bathroom, they found a pristime 1930 Canadian wheat back penny. Besides face value, does this coin have any value to a collector? I have not seen the coin in person, but she said it has a lot of shine to it like a brand new coin. Any info is appreciated.
