Dolphin Shows Gratitude to the Fishermen Who Rescued It

A group of fisherman off the coast of São Paolo, Brazil, had their Nov. 15 fishing trip transformed into a rescue mission for one adorable creature of the sea. In a dramatic video uploaded to YouTube, the fishermen spot a young dolphin caught in a plastic bag. The anglers use a net to pull the calf onto their boat to help it out. After a few tries, they are finally able to free the dolphin from the plastic bag:

Once the dolphin is released back into the ocean, it appears to jump out of the water for joy, which many people on the Web think was its way of thanking the fishermen. In another video that has people thinking that dolphins try to communicate with humans, a dolphin entangled in fishing wire approaches a diver in what some think is a sign that it is asking for help:

Both cases remind us that we need to protect the ocean and the animals that call it home.

  1. Hi my girlfriend and I are travelling to Moreton Island in January, what are the dolphins attendances like and is there a part of the year where there are more dolphins?

  2. I wanna see dolphins and whales, not in a zoo or aquarium. I wanna see them in the ocean somewhere. Anyone have a place that you have had a good experience spotting these lovely creatures?

  3. I know they breathe through their blowhole on the surface. We humans breathe through our noses but when we’re underwater and open our mouths (but not to breathe) water rushes in. I see dolphins opening theirs mouths underwater sometimes and when they catch food, how does water not get in their mouths and drown. Just been wondering about this.

  4. I was just wondering. Do they have a huge tank that they transport them in? How do they drive them to the aquariums?
Also, do they use a similar method to transfer the dolphins from aquarium to aquarium?

  5. Spiritually, does it make a difference when slaughtering dolphins if these beings can speak to you versus those animals that cannot ? What does your religion says about slaughtering sentient beings ?

  6. I want to swim with dolphins and I have seen photos of people swimming with dolphins in a tank in panama city beach. I want to swim with contained dolphins so I can guarantee my daughter will be able to get in on the experience. Does anyone know of the extablishment that offers this?

  7. I have always wanted to work with animals and dolphins are by far my favorite animal. I want to train dolphins and other marine mammals but I don’t know where to start. Please give me the facts and things I would need to study and all of that, links would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
Can more people please answer this?!

  8. The Miami Dolphins have not won one game this season and they have a record of 0-13. With three games left, do you see them winning at least one game against the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, and the Cincinnati Bengals. Why or why not?

  9. Dolphins are good and bad. But how do they effect our enviroment positivally? Do they eat bacteria? Do they kill bad fish?

  10. I just finished watching the cove in English. My mind is filled with it. It makes me angry that people would kill dolphins for money or so they can keep overselling and shipping fish. 20,000 dolphins are killed each year in japan. They are stabbed and hooked and slowly bleed to death. It makes me so angry. I don’t want to just sit back and let it happen. Is there anything I can do to help? Withought spending a fourtone I don’t have?

  11. How much does it cost to swim with dolphins in the Dominican Republic?

Has anybody ever swam with dolphins in the Dominican Republic and it is good?

    Thanks!!

  12. I heard dolphins are a type of toothed whale.

  13. if the dolphins evolve and develop complete sentience, what would their religious beliefs entail? how would those beliefs relate to humans? And will christian missionaries make an all out effort to convert the dolphins?

  14. I know dolphins and tuna have a close relashonship and usually swim in mixed schools but my question is: are tuna and dolphins related? basically, can you call a dolphin a tuna?

  15. IF PEOPLE GET IN GOOD SHAPE FROM SWIMMING WHY ARE DOLPHINS SO FAT???

AND NO ITS NOT THERE METABALISM

  16. Uhm part of the dolphin family just Common Dolpin.. Basic facts, interesting unusual facts.. Im studying them

  17. Science suggests Dolphins have language(communicated with combinations of various beeps and whistles), form social groups, and even use tools. Their brains are actually larger than our own. Scientific evidence actually says dolphins are self-aware(they recognize and examine themselves in mirrors!). They even understand “less” and “more”.

This makes me wonder do Dolphins have countries? Dolphin schools sometimes fight each other. Maybe these are wars?(These seem to be increasing as human pressure has put stress on food sources).

What kind of great potential is there? If Dolphins are as smart (maybe a little smarter) than us the effects of an exchange of information could be a huge boon to both our species. We could cut deals with Dolphin nations to provide security against sharks and jellyfish for areas where we swim, and in exchange we’d increase the amount of food in various parts of the ocean and do our part to keep it clean. We could adapt technology to work under water in exchange for valueable information that would teach us a lot about how life in the ocean works, and Dolphins could set up sophisticated underwater cities. Coastal cities could allow closer Human-Dolphin interaction, and some places in the Human world could even be made Dolphin-accessible and in the Dolphin world, Human-accessible.

  20. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about dolphins saving people from drowning and shark attacks….
What is it that makes dolphins, unlike other sea creatures, sympathize with humans?

  21. How do you get Dolphin to run at full speed? I’ve been trying for AGES, but I can’t get it to stop lagging. ITS SO FRUSTRATING! Could someone please help? I have a Toshiba Satellite C855, with a 2.50 GHz i5 processor and 6GB of RAM. My friend’s computer has much worse specs and he can run Dolphin just fine. PLEASE help, I’m desperate :(…

  22. i want to know facts and everything there is to know about these type of dolphins thanx everything is appreciated

  23. Ive heard many stories about dolphins rescuing drowning swimmers, saving people from sharks, and helping lost sailors find their way back. Have these stories been exaggerated more than stories of other animals helping humans? Because I have heard of other wild animals saving a persons life, but not nearly as much as dolphins.
