How To Schedule A Future Post In WordPress

Future Posts Wordpress

You can schedule blog posts to automatically publish themselves at any time in the future. If you want to remove an already published post and automatically republish it at a specific time/date in the future, the directions are the same (see below):

In the Publish module to the right of the post editor, click the blue Edit link next to Publish immediately.

Set the future date/time when you want the post to publish itself and click OK. To schedule a post in the PM, you will need to use the 24-hour clock. For example, 1:00 PM would read as 13:00 in the Schedule a Post module. The time will be based on your location settings in your Settings -> General page.

Instead of Publish immediately, it will now say Schedule for: followed by the date and time you specified, and the button has changed from Publish to Schedule.

Click Schedule. Scheduled posts will be triggered by the first visit to your blog on or after the exact date/time you set. If you see that the scheduled time has come and gone and your post has not published, simply log out of WordPress.com and view your blog’s front page. Your visit should cause the post to appear.

Note: Sometimes you might want to backdate a post. For example, if you’ve just come back from a long trip, you might want to write a post for each day of your travels and have the post dates match the actual days you were away. To backdate a post, simply edit the date before you clickPublish, as described above. In this case, the button will not change to Schedule.

Republishing a Post

Sometimes, you may want to republish an old post. If this is your goal, you have a few different options:

  1. You can reschedule your post by editing the date and time the post was published, entering a future date and time, then clicking Schedule. When the scheduled time arrives, the post will jump from its current position in your timeline to the most recent spot on your blog and display the new date and time. The link for the post will also change to reflect the new publication date. When you reschedule a post, it will not redistribute to your email subscribers.
  2. You can republish your post by changing the status of the post to Draft, clicking Update, then clicking Publish. When you do this, the post will immediately redistribute to your email subscribers. However, the publication date and time will remain the same, so the post’s link and position in your timeline will remain unchanged. If you want a republished post to show up first on your blog, you can always make it “sticky.”
  3. If your goal is to redistribute a post to your email subscribers, you can also try using the Writing Helper.

Un-scheduling a Post

If you’ve scheduled a post to be published in the future, but changed your mind and want to publish it immediately, head back to the Edit Post page for your scheduled post.

In the Publish module, click on the “Edit” link next to the date for which you’ve scheduled your post:

Then, enter today’s date and time as your scheduled post time and click on “Ok.” When finished, click Publish and your post will be published immediately.

Troubleshooting Scheduled Posts

If your scheduled post does not appear, check the following:

  • Is your timezone correct in your Settings -> General page?
  • Did you save your post as a draft rather than schedule it? For the post to publish, you must click the Schedule button.
  • Has no one visited your blog yet? Try logging out of WordPress.com and visiting your blog’s front page.

  1. I’m looking for a girl from an anime I can’t remember the name of. Either the anime or girl’s name and picture will do. From what I can remember, she has supernatural telekinesis abilities, or was a science experiment, or a mutant, either way she was really strong but didn’t know it, rather she didn’t quite care. As the question says she has platinum blonde hair that pools around her legs when sitting down, light, big, icy blue eyes, and very pale skin. She also has a large bang that covers her eyes. Sorry for this wild goose chase but I really want to know who she is.
    Not Darker Than Black, Higurashi, or Requiem. Her hair is far longer and lighter, about the length of C.C, from Code Geass. The girl isn’t quite sadistic, rather innocent and ignorant. She might have amnesia. I remember her being naked in her first or one of her first appearances. She has the apathetic expressions of Ren from Elemental Gelade and the aloof, and incapable personality of Shiina Mashiro from Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.

  2. I would like to write a series of blogs that will be automatically published for me while I am on vacation.

  3. I’m a new intern at a marketing company and my boss just sent me this- “I use a Plug-In for WordPress called EditFlow. It’s handy, but it isn’t doing all that I want it to do. Or perhaps I’m missing something in the navigation. Specifically, I want to be able to click on the calendar and type in the name of an article that will be posted at some point in the future, rather than going deep into WordPress and actually posting hte article and scheduling it for the appropriate date. So, that said, can you please Google around and try to find an online tutorial for the WordPress plug in called Edit Flow?” I’ve been looking for a long time, and no nothing about it myself, so any help?

  5. I am an ASP.net programmer. My skill-set includes HTML, CSS, ASP.Net, C#, JavaScript, Jquery, and other web-based technologies. Right now, I’m working a typical desk-job, stuck in a cubicle for 9+ hours per day.

    What I’d like to be doing, though, is work remotely on projects and have different clients. This way, I’m not locked into one location and can live anywhere I want and still be able to work, as long as I have internet access. What I don’t know how to do, though, is start doing this. Where do you find clients willing to let you work remotely on projects? How do you market yourself? I’ve already downsized my life as much as possible, so I’m extremely mobile. I envision working for a client in New York while I’m in a hotel near the beach in Florida. Basically, I don’t want the job to tie me to one location. I want to be able to work from anywhere. So, do any of you freelancers out there have any advice for me?

  6. Below you see the loop I’m using to output scheduled posts for the current day +1:

    ‘showtimes’);
    query_posts(‘day=’.$future_day);
    if (have_posts()):
    while (have_posts()) : the_post();?>

    No movies were added yet. Please check back later.

    This method breaks if the next day is the first of the following month … does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

  7. Hello I have question about wordpress is there a specific name for “future posts” when you select the Scheduled date for your post to be published?

    Because I wanted to check if it is possible for me to create my own similar code with php and mysql

    I also wanted to know if anyone knows any tutorials regarding Scheduled posts

    Thanks you,

    mark

  8. Please sign these petitions to save my cancer Doctor. The Texas Licensing Board is making an attempt to take his license, which is completely unwarranted and presents a threat to all of us, his current patients, and all cancer patients of the future and their right to choose what Doctor and what treatment they want. The hearing is scheduled for early April. Please sign these and share them. Thank you and love to you all!

  9. Hi,
    I’m in the process of putting together the coding for a webcomic website, but im not sure what code would be used to have the comic automatically update from a queue.
    I’ve heard in passing that you can either do it in javascript or php, neither of which i am very versed in and i have not been able to find anything that says it specifically.
    any ideas which code is used?

  16. Okay, so before i begin i’d just like to say, my entire life with anything (but especially art) i try to be as modest as possible. I really dont like to boast about it, ever! But for the purpose of this post i think i need to, otherwise you wont understand.
    Ever since i was a little kid ive been good at drawing. Ever since i could hold a pencil. Through all my schooling in my spare time i draw and draw and draw and DRAW AND STILL DO. Naturally, ive become pretty good at it from lots of practice. And, while i know there is always room for improvement, i think that if i try hard enough i can make it worth while when im older. Im in Australia, starting year 11 next year (i’ll be 17) and im doing lots of arts subjects. Im always eager to learn more and more, but im worrying about my future. Ive really closed all doors to DIFFERENT career pathways (no math, no science, nothing) so my options arent very broad. I could be an animator, graphic designer, all sorts of things, but really all i want to do is make art, and sell it. Like i said before, i always try really hard not be arogant or like im bragging but i know im good at this. Do you think its possible for me to get to this dream? And do you have any tips for getting my “foot in the door” so i can get a little more well known? thanks <3
